According to HIMSS policy experts, in the aftermath of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, health IT will continue to be an instrumental component in healthcare policy.
The Role of Health IT in Healthcare Policy will be held Monday, March 1, at 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM in Georgia Ballroom 3 at HIMSS10.
In this education session 41, attendees will find out from policy leaders how health IT is being addressed in federal legislation today and how it will be addressed into the future.
Attendees will have an opportunity to engage in questions and discussion with an expert panel, including Congressman Tom Price (R-Ga.), and understand what role HIMSS members can play in legislative activities.
Neal Neuberger, executive director of the HIMSS Institute for e-Health Policy, will moderate the session.
HIMSS launched the Institute for e-Health Policy in May 2008 to provide critical educational opportunities in the Washington, D.C., area for public- and private-sector stakeholders who both make, and are impacted by, e-health policy decisions.
Neuberger, the first executive director of the Institute, is also president of Health Tech Strategies, LLC, a Virginia-based consulting firm focused on the public and private sector policy environment with regard to research, development and implementation of emerging healthcare technologies.
Neuberger is also the executive director of the Capitol Hill Steering Committee on Telehealth and Healthcare Informatics, supported by major federal agencies, foundations and healthcare IT organizations. The committee has produced more than 120 lunch briefing sessions and technology demonstrations for members of Congress and their staff.
As part of the Steering Committee, Neuberger works closely with a bipartisan congressional leadership including Sens. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), Mike Crapo (R-Ind.), John Thune (R-S.D.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), and Reps. Rick Boucher (D-Va.), Eric Cantor (R-VA), Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.), Allyson Y. Schwartz (D-Pa.) and David Wu (D-Ore.).
