By Patty Enrado, Editor

Jim Sorace, MD, senior medical officer, Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, Dept. of Health and Human Services, and chair of the HIMSS Ambulatory Steering Committee 2009-2010, will chair a series of three back-to-back educational sessions on subjects relevant to ambulatory professionals.

William McClatchey, MD, FACP, FACR, CMIO, and John Hilliard, vice president and CIO, both of Piedmont Healthcare, will present education session 73, “EHR Adoption: ‘A Davies Award Winning Story’,” Tuesday, March 2, at 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM in Room B407. Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare’s successful electronic health record program earned it a 2006 HIMSS Davies Ambulatory Care Award.

Thomas Landholt, MD, PatientCare Family Clinic, follows at 9:45 AM – 10:45 AM in Room B406, with his education session 93, “Clinical Decision Support with EHRs.” This workshop illustrates how this practice used the EHR to improve practice workflow.

A. John Blair, III, MD, president of Taconic IPA, Inc., and Karen Bell, MD, MMS, former vice president of Health IT Services for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and senior vice president of Health IT Services for MassPro, will present education session 113, “What Does the Future of the Ambulatory Practice Look Like in a Post-ARRA Era?” at 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM in Room B406. Blair and Bell will explore what a practice would look like if it took advantage of an EHR implementation after 2015.

“I am really pleased with the program hosted by our Ambulatory Committee this year given this important time in our industry,” said Mary Griskewicz, senior director of Ambulatory Health Information Systems. “I encourage all Ambulatory practice professionals to join us for the some or all of the day’s sessions.”
